Can symmetry add function to an object?

Simply put - yes.  Zweilight uses symmetry to create unique lighting options and imitate the natural transition of daylight into twilight. Using the illuminated capacitive controls at the center of the anodized aluminum stem, the user is able to select the upper, lower, or both lights, as well as a mode that glows congruently with the daylight outside to create a natural lighting experience in the home.

Within the upper shade, the glowing core of light can be removed and carried so the use can illuminate their way as they move about their home. With a small rechargeable battery inside, it can glow for a short period of time outside of the main stem as a convenient way to light a dark hallway or nook.
